Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn (Illinois) and spent most of her childhood living in Chicago. Amy was a part of her family in Chicago while she was in junior high school. Parents, Bob, and Barb taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy has two sisters, Betsy and Lori, and a younger brother, Joe. Amy has traveled extensively across Europe with her entire family and on her own. They both taught and were able to travel and camp together every summer because of this. In actuality, they've been camping in every state, with the exception of Alaska. Amy was in Rwanda in 1994 after the war to help with aid efforts to help the victims. Amy was a gifted artist from the beginning when she was acting in school productions, and taking part in writing competitions. She was a talented athlete in high school and participated in the very first 3200-meter relay at the Illinois girls track. After a college accident, she returned to the theater and performed in a variety on stage, beginning with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" and directing Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy was a Knox College student from Galesburg, Illinois. She graduated with an B.A. East Asian history with a particular focus on Theater. She moved to Chicago immediately following her graduation, where she studied Improv at the Improv Olympic and then acting in the theater at The Actor's Center. A job as a contract actress on the now-defunct soap show Another World (1964) moved her to NYC right after graduating. She was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series". The most memorable characters include those played by women who are strong, such as Alex Taylor in Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone ((2000)), Katie Owen and Tom Berenger in Peacemakers(2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods(2003). Carlson lives in New York City with husband Syd Butler, bassist for Les Savy Fav, where she also works in the business of independent music as the co-owner of the independent label "Frenchkiss Records". Amy continues to pursue unique and diverse jobs in the film industry.
