Rashida Jones

Rashida Jones was the youngest daughter of media mogul, producer, musician Quincy Jones and actress Peggy Lipton. Kidada Jones is her older sibling. Five half-siblings are born through her father's other relationships. Her father is African American, and her mother is Ashkenazi Jewish (a descendant from migrants to Russia as well as Latvia). Rashida was educated in Reform Judaism. She was born in Bel Air, Los Angeles. Jones has made statements about her dual race parents, "It was the 1970s and it's not even that acceptable for them to be together." Jones' professional acting debut was in The Last Don (1997) which was a mini-series inspired by Mario Puzo's novel. Rashida has also graduated from Harvard University in 1997. Kidada Jones was the ring bearer for her sister's engagement and was singer for an Tupac Shakur tribute song. Kidada and her brother Quincy Jones III composed the song. Quincy Jones III, their father, also appeared during the introduction, reciting Shakur's lyrics "Starry Night". The poem inspired the song's title. Rashida is African-American and has more English, Scottish, or Welsh family ancestry than his mother (some of his African family members are of the Tikar tribe of Cameroon). Rashida's mother is Ashkenazi Jewish (of Russian Jewish and Latvian Jewish descent). Her maternal grandparents came from South Carolina and Mississippi. Her maternal grandfather was born to New Yorkers, while her maternal grandmother was of Eastern European Jewish heritage. As of the end of 2009 she had played three different characters as "Karen", on the iconic sitcoms on TV: Freaks and Geeks (1999), Stella ((2005) and The Office ((2005)).
